Khajuraho lies in the Bundelkhand area, a historic/cultural region ruled by the Bundela Rajputs from the 16th century onwards. The areas surrounding the town of Khajuraho are primarily farmland, with small hamlets and villages growing wheat, pulses, oilseeds, cereals and other crops. Cash crops include betel leaves, water chestnut, fruits for pickling, and recently, peppermint. Life in the village continues along traditional lines.
Bundelkhand cuisine is robust and flavourful, with many speciality items.
In this tour we will visit a local village near Khajuraho (30 mins drive). We will see farms and fields, water bodies, local crafts, and experience daily life in the village through a guided walk. We will also visit a farm and a local home to interact with the family. We will end with a rustic simple meal, cooked on woodfire at a local farmhouse.
This tour is a great way to understand how rural India functions - including village administration, politics, healthcare, education, family structures, and social change. And of course, you can taste the delicious Bundelkhand cuisine.
